People on Second Life

Second Life (SL) is an on-line game (OLG) which seems to have the possibility becoming a common teaching material in the future. It has many functions and unlike other OLGs in Taiwan, SL does not set goals for people to do hunting to upgrade. It is like its name “Second Life” that people are merely having their second lives here. So, what is fun of this OLG? What is so special with SL that people around the whole world gathering here playing it? This report has interviewed some players on SL and found out the answer.

Rex Emor, Lailani Delvalle and Chloe Bonham are three experienced players who frequently stay in the avatar village and accept this interview. The following texts are asking them the reasons for them to use SL.

Why do you use SL?
Rex Emor says he uses it to masterbate. Lailani Delvalle answers that it is because her first life is a mess that she turns to cheers herself up on SL. Chloe Bonham’s answer is enjoying meeting people around the world.

What do you mostly spend time on SL?
Rex Emor says Second Live gives oral pleasure to him and he can make friends here. He even spends different time with friends from different time zones on weekends but he mentions that a lot people are here to have sex as well. Lailani Delvalle agrees with Rex. She thinks there are 98% players on SL for sex; only 2% to make stuff. Chloe Bonham does more things besides talking and making friends. She would build things and go exploring.

What function of SL do you like the best?
Rex Emor says although there are many people use SL in wrong ways, it is still interesting to chat and interact with people here. He guess teaching a class here may be awesome as well. Lailani Delvalle is a talker. She says being here is awesome for her. Chloe Bonham’s favorite function is much like Rex, to chat and interact with people around the world

What function of SL do you want to try the most?
Rex Emor’s answer is sex stuff, such as having a baby or get married and even make other person to empregnate him. Chloe Bonham would like to try more scripting. Lailani Delvalle does not answer this question because she is talking with some new comers while being asked about this question.

Do you know there are an amount of foreign college students using SL as a course material? What do you think the purpose they use SL for?
Rex Emor does know there are students using SL for course purpose and they are using SL to learn a language. He does learn a little bit. Lailani Delvalle also knows this condition and she guess students are using the communication with people here to design and study the human psyche. While Chloe Bonham, who is already a mother, does not know this fact. She does guess there are students using SL to do research or something; but it is her first time to be firmly told. She does not even learn any foreign language from SL but she believes there is a good possibility.
As a conclusion, people on SL merely doing three things, chatting and making friends, having virtual sex and exploring SL. The most special thing with SL is that it affords a good opportunity for people to meet foreigners from different places around the world and become friends and since it provides so good chance for people to chat with foreigners here, it is a good way to learn a foreigner language here. Also, making sex on SL may be another attractive decision for players.

The editor and reviewer’s opinions are the followings:
1)The news is too long and it’s better to condense it.
2)Suggestions to introduce those people who are interviewed.
3)Cut down the questions by keeping the most interesting ones. For example, the questions about students on SL and what do people do on SL.
4)It’s ok to talk about the answers to other questions by simply mentioning it.
    5)Focus on some main points.
    6)Summarize in the last paragraph.
